The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa State has inaugurated caretaker committees across all 21 local government areas following recent internal changes.
Each local government committee consists of a chairman, secretary, and three other officials. The interim leaders are expected to manage party affairs pending the conduct of proper elections in line with the party’s constitution.
During the inauguration in Yola, the state interim PDP chairman, Belmont Dogo, emphasized the importance of grassroots structures, describing the local government committees as the “engine room” of the party. He tasked members with rebuilding confidence, repositioning the party, and preparing for future political success.
A legal practitioner, John Tunoh, who administered the oath of office, urged the officials to operate within the provisions of both the PDP and national constitutions.
Speaking on behalf of the appointees, Inuwa Umar pledged their commitment to strengthening the party at the grassroots.
The development comes after a major shake-up in the party, triggered by the defection of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri and several top officials to the All Progressives Congress (APC), leaving the PDP in need of restructuring and new strategies in the state.
