SP Bright Edafe, the Police Public Relations Officer for Delta State Command, shared on his social media pages today that the police have continued their investigation into the alleged sexual assault incident in Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area.

He said the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, led a team of senior officers to the community to get more information of what happened and to engage with people in the community.

According to the statement , the CP visited the traditional ruler of Ozoro Kingdom, HRM Anthony Uvietobore Ogbogbo, where it was said that he gave an update on the investigation and the statement added that the police will not tolerate any form of sexual harassment.

The statement said that the police also met with stakeholders in the area, including the Chairman of Isoko North LGA, community representatives, student leaders , and some of the victims.

Edafe further added that the Commissioner described the incident as disturbing and said the incident has also caught the attention of the Inspector-General of Police. He assured that everyone involved will be caught and face the law. He also acknowledged the students for staying calm and choosing dialogue instead of allowing the situation to escalate, the statement reads.

The statement concluded that the Command has condemned the incident and is calling on the public to come forward with any useful information that can help the investigation.

AfrikTimes earlier reported that the incident happened during a community festival, based on viral videos shared online, where some men were seen harassing and attacking women in public. The police on Friday also maintained that no tradition or custom should override the rights and safety of citizens, assuring that those responsible will be dealt with.
