Abuja, Nigeria
The Federal Government has congratulated the Government and people of Pakistan on the occasion of the country’s 70th Republic Day anniversary. In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja by the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, extended warm greetings to his Pakistani counterpart, Mohammed Ishaq Dar, describing the anniversary as a significant milestone in Pakistan’s history.
According to the statement, the celebration marks 70 years since the adoption of Pakistan’s Republican Constitution in 1956, a development that reinforced the nation’s sovereignty, institutional governance, and democratic evolution. Nigeria commended Pakistan for its resilience in the face of internal and external challenges, as well as its sustained commitment to national development, regional peace, and constructive engagement within the international community.
The Federal Government also acknowledged Pakistan’s role in promoting stability beyond South Asia, highlighting its contributions to multilateral diplomacy, peacekeeping operations, and efforts geared towards economic growth and social development.
Speaking on bilateral relations, Nigeria described its ties with Pakistan as warm and mutually beneficial, anchored on shared values and longstanding goodwill. Both countries have continued to collaborate across key sectors, including trade and investment, education, defence cooperation, capacity-building, and technical exchange.
At the multilateral level, the statement noted that Nigeria and Pakistan have maintained strong cooperation within platforms such as the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, where they jointly advocate for peace, security, sustainable development, and the protection of developing nations’ interests.
Reaffirming its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, Nigeria expressed optimism that its partnership with Pakistan would continue to grow through enhanced diplomatic engagement, expanded economic cooperation, and stronger people-to-people connections.
