The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) announced on their official social media accounts today that children and wards who have attained the age of 16 years and above should update their NIN. It sent a message to parents and guardians.
The National Identification Number (NIN) is an eleven digit number given by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to individuals in Nigeria. It is needed in Nigeria for opening a bank account, getting a passport, getting a driver’s license, and registering SIM cards.
The statement by the NIMC reads: “As your child turns 16, don’t forget to migrate their NIN data! This process moves their data from ‘ER’ (children enrollment) to ‘CR’ (adult enrollment), ensuring their NIN remains active.”
NIMC advises parents and guardians to take their children who have turned 16 to the nearest NIN centre so their identification number stays active and ready for use.
