Abuja, Nigeria
The embattled President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya, better known as MC Oluomo has taken possession of the union’s National Secretariat in Abuja, following a forceful takeover of the facility by a rival faction earlier in the week.
The secretariat was reportedly seized on Monday by members of the faction loyal to Lamidi Apapa’s ally, Ibikunle Baruwa, escalating the long-standing leadership dispute within the union.
Upon reclaiming the building, Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the premises, inspecting offices and facilities to evaluate the extent of damage allegedly caused during the confrontation.
The development marks another twist in the protracted leadership tussle within the NURTW, which has seen rival factions lay claim to the union’s national leadership and control of its assets.
Security presence around the secretariat has since been reinforced to prevent further breakdown of law and order, while efforts to resolve the crisis through dialogue are expected to intensify in the coming days.
