Security guards of a residential building along Saki Road in Iseyin have foiled a suspected five-man armed robbery attempt, killing one, and arresting two in the process.
In a statement released by the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the house had reportedly suffered a similar attempt in February. He noted that police operatives were dispatched to the scene after the command received actionable information indicating that a robbery attempt is ongoing.
He added that the security guard of the residence engaged the robbers in a gun duel which resulted in the death of one suspect, arrest of another two suspects identified as Ali Umar and Mohammed Usman, while the rest fled the scene having sustained grave injuries
“At about 0200HRS, credible intelligence was received regarding an ongoing attempted armed robbery attack at a residence situated close to the scene of an earlier reported robbery incident within the same axis. In swift response, detectives were immediately mobilized to the scene to forestall the attack and restore normalcy.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects, numbering about five (5), invaded the residence which had reportedly suffered a similar attack sometime in February. Upon arrival at the scene, it was gathered that the resident security guard had courageously engaged the armed suspects in a gun duel, resulting in the neutralization of one of the suspects, while two (2) others were arrested at the scene. The remaining members of the gang escaped with varying degrees of gunshot injuries,” the statement reads.
He disclosed that the police conducted a search on the scene which led to the recovery of “one cut-to-size locally made short gun, one expended cartridge, one live cartridge, about five (5) mobile handsets, two (2) power banks, and a sum of money reasonably suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities.”

In addition, the body of the suspect has been transported to the mortuary while the two arrested have been taken into police custody for future investigation.
“Following the arrest of the suspects and the expansion of investigative efforts, additional victims of previously reported robbery incidents within the axis have continued to come forward with useful information. In a related development, one of the victims of the previous robbery operations have positively identified the suspects as members of the gang that attacked his residence on 13/04/2026, thereby strengthening ongoing investigations into the activities of the criminal syndicate,” he added.
Mr.Ayanlade noted that the police has transferred the case to the Command Monitoring Unit in order to intensify investigation on robbery activities and to arrest flee gang members currently at large.
The Oyo State Commissioner of Police has assured the commitment of the Command towards protecting lives and property. He also commended the efforts displayed by the local security architecture and the cooperation of members of the public whose timely information aided the success recorded.
