The waves of defection hitting the political landscape has also been extended to the People’s Democratic party (PDP) as members left the party en masse.
Hon. Anthony Adebayo, representing Ibarapa Central and North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hauwa’u Abdullahi, former PDP Women Leader, Akko Local Government Area, Hon. Najimdeen Oyeshina, representing Iseyin, itesiwaju, iwajowa Kajola Federal Constituency and also the Deputy Chairman, Committee on Ecological fund, Senator Abdul Ningi, Senator for Bauchi Central Senatorial District, Prof. Jerome Nyameh, Representatives from Kano State; Umar Ajilo, Suleiman Yahaya, Hon. Akeem Olatunji, Chairman of Oluyole local government resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)
Hon. Anthony Adebayo, in his letter of resignation, stated that he defected from the party due to “unresolved internal conflicts that have ravaged the party”, he noted that this crisis is not only in his constituency but across the pacesetter state.
He expressed that people are aware of his loyalty and his dedication to the principles upholding the party since securing the party’s ticket in 2022 which resulted into his emergence as the member representing Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North Federal Constituency in the Nigerian House of Representatives
He further noted that “To me, PDP is not just a political party, it is an association in which my father, the late Asiwaju of Igbo Ora, Dr Amos Ademola Adepoju was a founding father in 1988 and also served as its National Financial Secretary between 1999 and 2002”
He expressed that the crisis rocking the party is causing a major hindrance for him as a lawmaker which also hinders him from effectively serving the people
Hauwa’u Abdullahi in her resignation from the party and position, expressed that her resignation from the party as well as her position as PDP Women leader was taken after careful consideration.
“I also extend my heartfelt gratitude to the leadership and members of the party for their support, cooperation and understanding throughout my time in service” she added.
Hon. Najimdeen Oyeshina in his resignation letter, stated that his decision to leave the party was taken after careful consideration and consultation aligning with his personal principles.
He further expressed his gratitude ” with a heart of gratitude, I appreciate the opportunities, experiences and relationships I have gained during my time with the party”
Prof. Jerome Nyameh through his Facebook post, stated that staying in the political party do not guarantee a free and fair opportunity and he’s not willing to compromise his integrity and principles for the sake of a new Taraba. “I resigned and joined Accord where we will actualize a New Taraba Project through the TARABA THERAPY agenda” he added.
He further expressed that “leadership is about results, not excuses and development should be seen, felt and touch”
Also, the speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, announced the defection of two Representatives; Umar Ajilo and Suleiman Yahaya Richifa, they stated that their decisions were driven by internal crises and growing uncertainty within their former political parties
