The People’s Democratic Party has condemned the allegations leveled against the Oyo state Governor, Seyi Makinde over the recent bandit in Oriire Local Government.
In a statement issued on Friday, through the PDP Southwest Publicity Secretary, Chief Sanya Atofarati which was titled ‘Fayse’s hypocrisy exposed’ , they ascribed that it’s a shameful and unfortunate act that a former governor will turn insecurity into a political game.
Fayose once made the allegation that the slow paced way in how they handle the issue of insecurity is orchestrated by political considerations.
“The Southwest PDP urges Nigerians to reject attempts to weaponize insecurity for partisan advantage. We stand firmly with the government and people of Oyo State in this difficult moment and commend Governor Seyi Makinde’s unwavering commitment to the security and welfare of the people” Atofarati noted.
He further added that the issue of insecurity should be tackled with competent leadership, collaboration and not allegations fueled by individuals with personal reasons.
Atofarati stated that the development in Ekiti state speaks more of Fayse’s hypocrisy where no steps was taken in tackling the abduction of 16 worshippers for over one month.
“Eda-Oniyo is barely 30 minutes away from Afao-Ekiti, Fayse’s hometown. Yet, he neither accused Governor Biodun Oyebanji of negligence nor demanded answers from the state government regarding the deteriorating security situation. Instead, while innocent citizens remained in captivity, Fayose continued his self-styled statewide political tour in support of Governor Oyebanji’s re-election bid.
The party explained that the former governor did not visit or demonstrate empathy for the victims of the Eda-Oniyo attack or demand urgent action through his means. Whereas, he’s busy fraternizing with APC members and political leaders in furtherance of his campaign for the APC governor.
The party explained that “this selective outrage exposes the insecurity behind his comments on the Oyo incident and confirms that his criticisms are driven not by concern for victims of insecurity but by partisan calculations”
Atofarati also explained Fayose has already handed power to his son under the umbrella of APC.
“Nigerians and PDP members in particular are justified in asking: How does a self-acclaimed PDP leader justify openly campaigning for the APC while simultaneously claiming ownership of the PDP? such conduct represents a fundamental contradiction that undermines every principle of party loyalty, political integrity and ideological consistency”
Atofarati noted that the structure of Fayose has been driven by personal interest instead of fighting against insecurity he has chosen the path of partisan distortion and political opportunism.
Atofarati stated that governance and posterity demand leaders that strengthen institutions rather than weaken them for temporary political convenience.
