Governor Ademola Adeleke has approved a work-free day for public servants across Osun State on Tuesday, July 28, to give them time to collect their Permanent Voter Cards ahead of next month’s governorship election.
The directive covers all categories of public servants, including local government staff and workers in tertiary institutions, according to a circular issued by the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina. Essential workers such as medical personnel and security staff are excluded from the blanket off-day, with the circular asking them to make internal arrangements among themselves so that services critical to the public aren’t disrupted.
In a statement conveying the announcement, the governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, quoted Adeleke urging both public servants and informal workers alike to prioritise collecting their cards without delay, given how consequential he considers next month’s election to the state’s future. The governor described the PVC as effectively a voter’s “licence to the ballot paper and by extension to the ballot box,” and encouraged all registered voters to get to collection centres as soon as possible.
