By The All Progressives Congress has released the complete, 223-member list of its Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 election, expanding on an earlier release that had named only the council’s top principal officers. Meanwhile, Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar has formally accepted his appointment as the council’s Director-General, pledging discipline and unity as the party’s campaign machinery gets underway.

The expanded list, released by the Presidency on Saturday, August 22, confirmed President Bola Tinubu as Chairman of the council, with Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda serving as Vice Chairmen I and II. Yari, who represents Zamfara West in the Senate and is a former Zamfara State governor, was confirmed as Director-General, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma was named Secretary. The statement announcing the council was signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Beyond the principal officers, the list adds directorates spanning finance, extractive industries, education, manufacturing and MSMEs, support group coordination, faith-based mobilisation, protocol, labour union relations, special duties, stakeholders’ mobilisation, community support, digital operations, grassroots engagement, and welfare, reflecting the scale of the machinery APC is assembling ahead of the January 2027 vote.
Notable appointments include former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje as Director of Stakeholders’ Mobilisation, and former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola as Zonal Coordinator for stakeholders’ mobilisation in the South-West. In the extractive industry sector directorate, Ministers of State for Petroleum Resources Heineken Lokpobiri and Ekperikpe Ekpo were named deputy directors, working alongside Olu Verheijen, who serves as a secretary in the same directorate. Minister of Education Tunji Alausa was named Director of Education Sector Mobilisation, with Minister of State for Education Suwaiba Ahmad as his deputy.
Former Kaduna lawmaker and ex-Senator Shehu Sani was listed as Deputy Director of Support Group Coordination alongside Muri Ajaka, while separate directors were named for Christian and Muslim faith-based mobilisation, Stephen Adegbite and Sheikh Haliru Maraya, respectively, each with their own deputies and secretaries. Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development Yerima Shettima was named Deputy Director of Labour Union Relations, working alongside veteran labour leader Issa Aremu.

State-Level Structure
Beyond the national council, each state is to have its own campaign structure comprising the State Campaign Coordinator, the State APC Executive Committee, all serving ministers from that state, all House of Representatives and State Assembly candidates, all elected APC local government chairpersons, and state coordinators for support groups, grassroots engagement, agro commodities, humanitarian affairs, stakeholders’ relations, contact and mobilization, youth, welfare, women, persons with disabilities, and the creative arts sector, alongside all members of the Presidential Campaign Council and any other stakeholder deemed critical.
Yari Accepts DG Role, Sets Sights on January 2027
Reacting to his appointment, Senator Yari, who represents Zamfara West and previously governed Zamfara State, thanked President Tinubu and the party leadership for the responsibility. He said he was accepting the role with deep gratitude and seriousness, describing the trust placed in him by the party.
Yari characterised the coming campaign as more than an electoral contest, describing it as a nationwide dialogue with Nigerians across every state, language and faith about the country’s shared future. He pledged to run the campaign with discipline, unity and respect for all Nigerians and said preparations would begin immediately. He also urged Nigerians across political lines to prioritise progress over division, arguing that the APC’s case would rest on its record rather than rhetoric, and closed by expressing confidence that, with collective effort, the party would secure victory when Nigerians go to the polls in January 2027.
