President Bola Tinubu has directed all redeployed and dismissed ministers to complete the handover process to their successors by October 30, 2024. For ministries without new appointees, outgoing ministers are to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries.
This order follows the President’s recent cabinet reshuffle, announced after the Federal Executive Council meeting, where 10 ministers were reassigned, five were dismissed, and seven new ones were appointed. The new appointments are subject to approval by the National Assembly.
In a statement issued by George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), it was also noted that the merging of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, as well as the reorganization of the Ministry of Sports Development, will be overseen by the SGF and the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.
The statement emphasized that all handover procedures should be finalized by the set deadline of October 30. It also highlighted that the Ministry of Niger Delta Development has been renamed and expanded into the Ministry of Regional Development, which will now oversee commissions such as the Niger Delta Development Commission, South East Development Commission, North East Development Commission, and North West Development Commission.
Permanent Secretaries are instructed to ensure a smooth transition and submit copies of handover notes to the SGF for official records.
