Abuja, Nigeria – May 14, 2025
Following the recent admission by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) of technical errors in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results, human rights activist and politician, Omoyele Sowore, has called for the outright scrapping of several major educational institutions in Nigeria.
In a post on his official X handle on Wednesday, Sowore described JAMB, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as “extracurricular bureaucratic busybodies.”
“Time to scrap these extracurricular bureaucratic busybodies… JAMB, NYSC, TETFUND, NELFUND, they are all useless,” he wrote.
Sowore’s comments come amid public outrage following JAMB’s acknowledgement that a technical glitch affected the results of over 379,000 candidates, prompting the board to pledge redress.
The activist’s post has since sparked mixed reactions online. Some Nigerians have echoed his frustrations over inefficiencies in the country’s education system, while others have defended the relevance of the institutions in question.
It would be recalled that JAMB’s Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, publicly apologised today amidst tears for the errors made by the examination body.
