Sokoto, Nigeria — In a major advancement in the fight against insurgency and terrorism, the Nigerian military has confirmed the elimination of a key ally of notorious terrorist leader Bello Turji.

Alhaji Shaudo Alku was killed in a precision airstrike carried out by the Air Component of Operation Fagan Yama near Tunfa Primary School in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State on May 18, 2025.

According to a post from the Nigerian Army’s official X handle, Alku had been invited from Niger Republic for a strategic meeting before the strike took him out alongside several of his men and unconfirmed terrorist commanders. The military described the development as a significant disruption to terrorist operations in the region.

This announcement comes on the heels of renewed assurances from the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, who during an operational visit to Maiduguri on May 15 reaffirmed the military’s commitment to ending the insurgency in North-East Nigeria.

General Musa stated that new platforms and combat enablers would soon be deployed to the Theatre Command of Operation HADIN KAI to further empower troops. He charged officers to remain aggressive and resilient in their operations, stressing that Nigerians were counting on the military as a symbol of national hope.

The CDS also visited the scene of a recent explosion at Giwa Barracks, where he commended Explosive Ordinance Disposal teams for their swift response and professionalism. He assured them of ongoing support, highlighting joint efforts among defence agencies to counter the threat of terrorism.

As both kinetic operations and logistical reinforcements continue, the military says it remains focused on dismantling terrorist networks and restoring peace across the affected regions.
