Demands records of cancelled services in flight refunds dispute FCCPC summons Air Peace
Summary
- FCCPC orders Air Peace to appear over failure to refund passengers for cancelled flights
- Airline asked to submit 12-month record of complaints, refunds, and mitigation efforts
- Non-compliance could attract sanctions, fines, or imprisonment under consumer law
Abuja, Nigeria — The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has summoned the management of Air Peace Limited over mounting complaints of unpaid refunds for cancelled flights.
The commission issued the summons on June 13, 2025, directing the airline to appear at its headquarters in Abuja on June 23.
Citing Sections 32 and 33 of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA) 2018, the FCCPC is investigating alleged violations of refund provisions outlined in Sections 130(1)(a), 130(1)(b), and 130(2)(b) which require service providers to issue timely refunds when services are not rendered due to their own fault.
As part of the investigation, Air Peace has been instructed to submit comprehensive documentation, including a complaint log for refund requests over the last 12 months, details of processed refunds, a list of cancelled flights, and measures taken to reduce passenger hardship.
The FCCPC warned that failure to comply may lead to sanctions, including fines or imprisonment, as stipulated in Section 33(3) of the FCCPA.
This latest development follows a previous FCCPC inquiry in December 2024 into alleged exploitative pricing by the airline. However, the current summons strictly addresses refund-related issues.
Public frustration over Air Peace’s customer service has been growing, with many users on X and other platforms expressing anger over the airline’s handling of cancellations and refund delays.
While Air Peace has promised full cooperation with the FCCPC, the wave of consumer complaints suggests rising discontent among air travellers nationwide.
It would be recalled that Senator Adams Oshiomhole, former governor of Edo State and current senator representing Edo North, clashed with Airline on June 11, 2025, at the Zulu Terminal of the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, over a missed flight.
