Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended a heartfelt message of support to Nigeria’s Super Falcons as they gear up for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final against host nation Morocco tonight at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.
The President’s message, dated June 26, 2025, praised the team’s exceptional performance throughout the tournament, describing it as “awe-inspiring” and commending their representation of Nigeria with “pride, honour, and strength.”
President Tinubu specifically lauded the team’s display of true sportsmanship, both on and off the pitch. He highlighted their visit to the injured South African player, Gabriela Salgado of Banyana Banyana, following the semi-final match, calling it a “simple act of compassion” that reflects “our shared humanity, empathy, and sisterly affection, which we Africans hold in high regard.”
In his message, the President underscored the Super Falcons’ formidable record, noting their unbeaten run in the group stages, victories in the knockout rounds, and conceding only one goal in the semi-finals. He also pointed out their impressive historical achievement of triumphing in all nine of their previous WAFCON finals.
“If statistics alone win matches, you are already champions,” President Tinubu stated.
On behalf of a “grateful nation,” President Tinubu affirmed that Nigerians are “rooting for you and praying for your resounding success tonight, as you strive to achieve the crowning accomplishment of lifting a record tenth continental title.”
