Osun, Nigeria – Ademola Adeleke, the Osun State Governor, has, in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, vowed that the people of the state will resist any attempt to subvert their mandate in the 2026 governorship election. He declared that “electoral robbers” will be stopped through vigilance and mass participation. The Governor urged indigenes of the state, especially those residing outside Osun, to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise and to transfer their Permanent Voter Cards back to the state. He stated that doing so would enable them to participate in the next governorship poll and ensure the retention of people-oriented leadership beyond 2026, when his current tenure ends.

The release stated: “I call on Osun residents outside the state to transfer their voting cards to the state and ensure mass participation for the retention of people-oriented leadership by August 2026. Our voting card is our weapon to prove that good governance is a possibility, as Osun has been experiencing in the last two and a half years.” In addition, the Governor said: “We must not only update our registration details, we should ensure we vote and protect our votes when the time comes. We must be ready to stop electoral robbers if they ever attempt to thwart the electoral will of the people.”

Adeleke emphasised that the state has experienced consistent progress during his tenure, asserting that ongoing governance relies on active engagement in the electoral process. He also urged state officials and influential leaders at the local government level to encourage their constituents to participate in the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) initiative, assuring them that his administration would steadfastly uphold the democratic rights of the electorate. Furthermore, the Governor conveyed his confidence that the Independent National Electoral Commission would execute its operations smoothly for the benefit of the public.
