Abuja, Nigeria

Justice James Omotosho of a Federal High Court, Abuja has discharged and acquitted suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, after ruling that the prosecution failed to prove the allegations brought against him.

In its judgment, the court held that the evidence presented was insufficient to sustain the criminal charges filed against the senior police officer.

Kyari, who previously headed the Intelligence Response Team of the Nigeria Police Force, had been under intense public and legal scrutiny following investigations into alleged misconduct.

The case attracted widespread attention across Nigeria’s security and legal circles due to Kyari’s prominent role in leading several high-profile crime-fighting operations across the country.

The court’s ruling effectively clears the suspended police officer of the charges, marking a major development in one of Nigeria’s most closely followed law enforcement cases.
