The Adamawa State Government, under the leadership of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has earmarked ₦8 billion for poverty alleviation programmes in the 2026 fiscal year, ranking among the largest single state-level investments in poverty reduction nationwide.
The allocation is aimed at deepening economic inclusion and improving livelihoods across the state through targeted, grassroots-focused interventions. A key component of the initiative is the Fintiri Business Wallet Scheme, which will provide ₦50,000 grants to residents to support micro and small-scale businesses, particularly within local communities.
In addition, the funding will be channelled into skills acquisition and vocational training programmes designed to empower youths and women with practical, income-generating skills. The programmes are expected to boost employability, encourage self-reliance, stimulate job creation and increase household incomes.
Implementation of the initiatives will be coordinated by the Adamawa State Poverty Alleviation and Wealth Creation Agency (PAWECA), the government agency responsible for driving poverty reduction and wealth creation strategies in the state.
Government officials say the size of the ₦8 billion allocation underscores the Fintiri administration’s resolve to tackle poverty through structured, inclusive and impact-driven policies. They added that the programmes align with the administration’s broader development agenda of expanding economic opportunities and reducing vulnerability among citizens.
With this significant investment, Adamawa State further positions itself as a leading sub-national government in Nigeria in terms of direct financial commitment to poverty alleviation and grassroots economic empowerment.
