The Adamawa State Government has commenced the distribution of rice and sugar to vulnerable residents across the 21 local government areas of the state as part of its Ramadan support programme.
The exercise, flagged off in Yola, highlights Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s continued efforts to cushion economic hardship and provide relief to low-income households during critical periods.
Speaking at the ceremony held along Numan Road in Yola, the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Yayaji Mijinyawa, said the food items were procured to ease the burden on vulnerable persons, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan
He disclosed that each of the 21 local government areas would receive 1,200 bags of food items, comprising 600 bags of rice and 600 bags of sugar, for onward distribution to deserving beneficiaries.
The commissioner urged local authorities to ensure transparency and fairness in the distribution process, emphasizing that the intervention was designed to directly reach the less privileged and provide meaningful support throughout the fasting period.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria in the state, Suleiman Ahmad Gangkuba, assured residents that the items would be equitably distributed across all local government areas.
The Ramadan intervention follows a similar exercise conducted during the Christmas season last year, reflecting the state government’s policy of providing targeted assistance to residents during major religious and festive periods.
