The Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) has commenced the screening of candidates for the forthcoming local government elections scheduled to hold on July 11 across the state’s 21 local government areas.

The exercise comes as the tenure of the current council officials, who were elected on July 13, 2024, is set to expire on July 12, paving the way for a new electoral process at the grassroots level.

According to ADSIEC, the ongoing screening initially involves candidates from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP). The commission noted that the process will be extended to other participating political parties, including the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the main opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking on the exercise, the Chairman of ADSIEC, Alhaji Muhammed Madagali, assured political parties and aspirants of the commission’s resolve to conduct a transparent, fair, and lawful screening process.

He disclosed that all necessary arrangements have been put in place, including thorough verification of candidates’ documents and adequate security measures to ensure a smooth and orderly exercise.

Alhaji Madagali further called on all parties and candidates to strictly adhere to electoral guidelines and cooperate with ADSIEC officials, stressing that such compliance is vital to the success of the screening and the credibility of the forthcoming elections.
