The Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has officially announced its decision to appeal the sanctions imposed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), following incidents that occurred during the final of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco .

Recall that CAF’s Disciplinary Committee on Thursday handed down a series of punishments to both Morocco and Senegal over what the governing body described as unruly conduct that marred the highly charged final encounter between the two countries.

In a statement released by the FRMF, the Moroccan football governing body while confirming that it has activated the CAF judicial process by filing a formal appeal, expressed dissatisfaction with the ruling, describing the sanctions as excessive and unfair.

The federation maintained that the disciplinary measures do not accurately reflect the sequence of events and circumstances surrounding the disturbances at the final, insisting that Morocco’s actions were misinterpreted in CAF’s findings.

The decision to appeal further deepens the fallout from the controversial AFCON final, which has continued to generate intense debate across African football, with both federations, fans, and stakeholders closely monitoring CAF’s next move.

As at the time of filing this report, Senegal is yet to publicly comment on the matter.
