Port Harcourt, Nigeria – An Air Peace Boeing 737-300 aircraft skidded off the runway at Port Harcourt International Airport on the morning of 13 July 2025, prompting emergency response and a temporary disruption to flight operations. The flight, numbered P47190 and registered as 5N-BQQ, was arriving from Lagos when it veered into the grass shortly after landing on runway 03 at approximately 7:45 a.m. local time.
All 127 passengers and crew members were safely evacuated with no reported injuries. According to initial reports, the incident has been classified as a minor runway excursion, and there was no visible damage to the aircraft.
In a statement signed by Osifo-Whiskey Efe, spokesperson for Air Peace Limited, the airline confirmed the incident, assuring the public of its unflinching commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety in all its operations.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) have both launched investigations into the incident. Preliminary considerations include weather conditions, the state of the runway, and possible technical malfunctions.
FAAN has urged travellers to check with their respective airlines for updates on flight schedules, as operations at the airport experienced delays in the aftermath of the incident.
This marks the second incident involving Air Peace in 2025. In May, one of its aircraft collided with an antelope during landing at Asaba Airport, also without casualties.
Further updates are expected as investigations progress.
