An ally of the Governor of Zamfara State, and the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo has welcomed the return of the Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the development as a triumphant comeback to the party’s fold.
In a statement, the APC chieftain recounted Lawal’s political journey, noting that the governor was previously a member of the ruling party ahead of the 2019 elections. According to him, Lawal’s friends and political allies made significant efforts at the time to secure the APC governorship ticket for him in Zamfara State.
However, he said Lawal was denied the ticket and allegedly faced persecution from political rivals within the party. The internal disagreements among APC members in Zamfara eventually led to intense infighting, which contributed to the party losing all its elective positions in the state.
Following the setback, Lawal moved to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he secured the party’s governorship ticket ahead of the 2023 elections and went on to win the poll convincingly.
Keyamo described Lawal’s return to the APC as significant, noting that he is now rejoining the party as a sitting governor and its leader in Zamfara State.
Welcoming him back, Keyamo said the governor’s political journey shows that “destiny can be delayed, but not denied,” expressing optimism that his return would strengthen the party in the state.
