Today, Bashir Ahmad, former Special Assistant on Digital Communications to President Muhammadu Buhari (2015–2023), wrote in a post on his X account that the move by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to make membership registration a verified mobile number tied to a valid National Identification Number (NIN) was a strategic move.
In his opinion, the step is aimed at enhancing the transparency, credibility, and accountability of the party structure. He also observed that linking every registered member with a verifiable identity minimizes the chances of false registration or fraudulent identity in its membership database.
He also urged the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to consider reviewing its membership registration processes so that it would be seen as more credible after an online publication on a fake ADC membership identification card attributed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and activist Omoyele Sowore.
