APC’s Maikalangu Re-Elected AMAC Chairman

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced Christopher Maikalangu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairmanship election in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Announcing the result, the AMAC Collation Officer, Andrew Abue, said Maikalangu, who is the incumbent chairman, secured 40,295 votes out of 62,861 valid votes cast to emerge victorious. According to the official results, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Paul Ogidi, came second with 12,109 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled 3,398 votes.

Nemiebika Tamunomiesam of the Action Alliance (AA) pulled 108 votes; Richard Elizabeth of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) pulled 588 votes; Eze Chukwu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) pulled 1,111 votes; Chukwu Promise of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) scored 122 votes; Ugoh Michael of the Action Peoples Party (APP) – 32 votes among others.

Giving for her breakdown of the election process, Abue stated that a total of 65,197 votes were cast in the election, with 62,861 valid votes and 2,336 rejected votes. He added that 65,676 voters were accredited out of the 837,338 registered voters in AMAC.

Abue declared Maikalangu as the winner saying; “That Maikalangu of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.”
