Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has approved a ₦13 million support package for the family of late Channels Television cameraman, Kani Ben, who died following a tragic road accident while on official duty.
Mr. Ben passed away at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital nine days after sustaining a severe spinal cord injury in the crash.
The accident occurred while he was part of a media team covering the inspection and commissioning of projects executed by the North East Development Commission.
While condoling the bereaved family, Governor Mohammed disclosed that ₦3 million had been approved to support burial arrangements scheduled to take place in Adamawa State, while ₦10 million was earmarked for the immediate welfare and upkeep of the deceased’s family.
The governor also announced the dismissal of the driver of the bus conveying the journalists, citing reckless driving as the cause of the fatal crash. He emphasized that such grave mistakes cannot be overlooked and confirmed that the driver has been made to face the consequences of his actions.
