Barcelona suffered their first La Liga defeat of the season as Sevilla claimed a memorable win at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán. Ronald Araújo, one of two changes from the midweek loss to Paris Saint-Germain, was involved in the key moment that led to Sevilla’s opener. He was judged to have fouled Isaac Romero inside the penalty area, and after a VAR review, the decision stood. Former Barcelona forward Alexis Sánchez converted the resulting spot-kick to put the hosts ahead.

Sevilla continued to threaten after taking the lead, with Romero at the centre of most of their chances. The forward missed two clear opportunities before finally finding the net on his third attempt in the 37th minute, finishing calmly from a Ruben Vargas pass to make it 2–0.

Barcelona managed to pull one back before half-time. Pedri whipped in a superb cross that Marcus Rashford met with a powerful volley to score his first La Liga goal.

The visitors pushed hard for an equaliser after the break and had a golden chance in the 76th minute when Alejandro Balde was brought down in the box by Adnan Januzaj. But Robert Lewandowski sent the penalty wide, to the delight of the home fans, as Sevilla held on for a famous victory.

Sevilla put the result beyond doubt in the 90th minute when José Ángel Carmona drilled a low shot past Wojciech Szczęsny into the far corner. The night got even better for Los Nervionenses deep into stoppage time, as Akor Adams added a fourth to complete a stunning 4–1 victory.

For Barcelona, it’s now two defeats in a row following their midweek Champions League loss to PSG. Hansi Flick will welcome the upcoming international break as a chance to reset and regroup, with his side clearly struggling for form in recent matches.
