Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has called the results of Saturday’s local government elections a true reflection of the people’s will.
In a press release issued on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Kula Tersoo, and shared with journalists in Makurdi, the governor praised the peaceful conduct of the election, stating that it showcased the maturity of the people of Benue in participating in a democratic process with respect, dignity, and a commitment to peace and unity—essential for the state’s progress.
Earlier that day, Richard Tombowua, Chairman of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission, declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) had won all 23 chairmanship and 276 councillorship positions.
Reacting to this, Governor Alia expressed deep gratitude to the people of Benue for their peaceful engagement, active participation, and overwhelming support for APC candidates. He stated, “I sincerely thank each of you for your active participation in the local government elections across our 23 local governments. Your peaceful and civil approach reflects the maturity of our democracy.”
He also noted that the strong support for APC candidates indicates that the people of Benue align with the direction his government is taking and share his vision to advance the state.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fulfilling its promises to the people, with a focus on building a prosperous Benue where everyone has the opportunity to succeed. He congratulated the election winners and encouraged those who lost to work alongside the victors and his administration for the collective good of the state.
“The peaceful conduct of this election demonstrates our commitment to peace and unity, vital to our progress. I am proud that our citizens turned out to make their voices heard, proving that we can engage in democracy with respect and dignity,” Alia concluded.
