The Borno State Government has renewed its commitment to partnering with the European Union (EU) to expand digital skills training for young people as part of efforts to drive post-conflict recovery and economic transformation through technology.
Executive Secretary of the Borno State Information and Communication Technology Development Agency, Mohammed Kabir-Wanori, stated that collaboration with development partners remains a key pillar of the state’s long-term growth strategy. He explained that the government’s 25-year development plan and the TEMPACT agenda emphasize the importance of partnerships in achieving sustainable progress.
According to Kabir-Wanori, the state government has established fully equipped ICT centres across all 27 local government areas to provide training opportunities for youths, including those in remote communities. These centres offer internet connectivity and modern IT facilities aimed at upskilling and reskilling young people for the digital economy.
He acknowledged the vital role played by international partners in the success of the initiative, noting that organisations such as the EU, ZOA Nigeria, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have contributed significantly to its implementation. He stressed that such partnerships help to enhance programme effectiveness and broaden access to opportunities.
Representatives of development partners described the project as a deliberate effort to bridge the digital skills gap and promote inclusive participation in the digital space. A ZOA official explained that the programme focuses on creating opportunities for women, youths, and persons with disabilities to acquire relevant digital knowledge and improve their socio-economic prospects.
The Borno State Government reaffirmed its determination to create an enabling environment that attracts more development partners and ensures that capacity-building initiatives remain aligned with the state’s recovery and development objectives.
