The Kano State Government has announced that the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, will lead the 2026 Eid-el-Fitr Durbar celebrations.
The decision, approved by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, follows security intelligence reports warning of possible unrest during the Sallah period. Authorities say measures have been put in place to maintain peace while preserving the state’s cultural heritage.
According to the government, the Hawan Idi procession will take place along designated routes from Kofar Mata Eid Ground to the emir’s palace. However, some traditional activities have been adjusted for safety reasons:
Hawan Nasarawa will hold in a modified format without horseback displays
Hawan Daushe, Hawan Fanisau, and Hawan Dorayi have been temporarily suspended
Security agencies have been directed to intensify surveillance, while residents are urged to remain law-abiding and avoid spreading unverified information.
The Durbar, a historic cultural event in Kano, has faced uncertainty due to the ongoing emirship dispute between Muhammadu Sanusi II and Aminu Ado Bayero, which is still before the courts.
