In a significant cabinet shake-up, President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday removed five ministers from his administration. The announcement was made by Dada Olusegun, Special Adviser to the President on Social Media.
The ministers affected by the dismissal are Uju-Ken Ohanenye, Minister of Women Affairs; Lola Ade-John, Minister of Tourism; Prof. Tahir Mamman, Minister of Education; Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development; and Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim, Minister of Youth Development.

In a statement, the President’s office confirmed the move as part of “eight far-reaching actions” aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the administration. Among these actions are the renaming of the Ministry of Niger Delta Development to the Ministry of Regional Development to oversee all regional development commissions and the transfer of sports-related functions to the National Sports Commission. Additionally, the Ministry of Tourism will merge with the Ministry of Arts and Culture, forming the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy.
The statement also revealed the re-assignment of 10 ministers to new portfolios and the nomination of seven new ministers, pending Senate confirmation. Key appointments include Shehu Dikko as Chairman of the National Sports Commission and Sunday Akin Dare as Special Adviser on Public Communication and Orientation. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu was named Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, while Jumoke Oduwole will serve as Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment.
Other notable appointments include Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi as Minister of Labour and Employment, Idi Mukhtar Maiha as Minister of Livestock Development, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata as Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, and Suwaiba Said Ahmad as Minister of State for Education.
The reshuffle signals President Tinubu’s determination to optimize government performance and fulfill his promises to Nigerians.
