The Court of Arbitration for Sport has confirmed receipt of an appeal from the Senegalese Football Federation seeking to overturn the controversial decision that awarded the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 title to Morocco.

In a statement issued on Wednesday March 25, 2026, CAS disclosed that Senegal is requesting that the ruling by the Confederation of African Football be set aside and that the FSF be officially declared winners of the tournament.

The dispute stems from CAF’s earlier decision to strip Senegal of the title under circumstances that have not been fully detailed publicly, but are believed to involve regulatory, disciplinary, or eligibility issues linked to the final or broader competition framework. Senegal, however, maintains that it rightfully earned the title on the pitch and is challenging the legitimacy of CAF’s ruling.

If CAS rules in favour of Senegal, the decision could lead to a reversal of the AFCON 2025 outcome and restore Senegal as champions. Conversely, a ruling upholding CAF’s decision would confirm Morocco’s status as winners.

The case is likely to attract significant attention across African and global football, as it touches on governance, fairness, and the integrity of continental competitions. Both federations, along with CAF, are expected to present strong legal arguments in what could become one of the most high-profile sports arbitration cases involving African football in recent years.
