Barcelona have lost for the first time this season, with Paris Saint Germain emerging victorious in their eagerly anticipated Champions League clash at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys in Montjuic.
The Catalans began brightly, asserting their dominance over Luis Enrique’s injury-hit side. Ferran Torres squandered a golden opportunity to open the scoring after a sublime trivela pass from Lamine Yamal, but only minutes later he made amends, finding the net to give Barcelona a deserved lead.
It gave Barcelona a deserved lead, but it also woke PSG up, they were the better team for the remainder of the first team, and on 39 minutes, they got their reward by way of the equalising goal as a wonderful driving run from Nuno Mendes ended with teenage forward Senny Mayulu firing past Wojciech Szczesny from the edge of the box.
Barcelona came out in the second half determined to retake their lead, but just beyond the hour mark, they should have got their second goal of the evening. A clearance fell the way of Dani Olmo inside the penalty area, but his strike was blocked on the line by former Real Madrid defender Achraf Hakimi.
PSG also had chances to get the winner, and they came so close when former Valencia and Mallorca player Lee Kang-in dribbled away from a number of Barcelona players before firing his effort off the outside of Szczesny’s right post, and they did get the goal they desired in the 90th minute coming from substitute Goncalo Ramos.
Barcelona will be left frustrated by this defeat, not only because they had taken the lead, but also as PSG were without several key figures, including Marquinhos, João Neves, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Désiré Doué and Ousmane Dembélé, nevertheless, the French champions produced an impressive display and fully earned their victory.
