European heavyweights Liverpool and Bayern Munich booked their places in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals in emphatic fashion, while Atlético Madrid edged past Tottenham Hotspur in a dramatic encounter on a thrilling night of Round of 16 second-leg action.
At Anfield, Liverpool produced a commanding display to defeat Galatasaray 4–0, sealing a 6–1 aggregate victory. Mohamed Salah opened the scoring in the 12th minute before Darwin Nunez doubled the lead on 28 minutes. Dominik Szoboszlai added a third in the 55th minute, while Cody Gakpo completed the scoreline with an effort in the 79th minute. The result confirmed Liverpool’s comfortable progression into the last eight.
In Germany, Bayern Munich eased past Atalanta with a 4–1 win on the night and a 5–2 aggregate triumph. Harry Kane set the tone early with a goal in the 10th minute, followed by Leroy Sane in the 34th minite. Jamal Musiala extended the lead in the 61st minute before Atalanta’s Gianluca Scamacca pulled one back in the 72nd minute. Thomas Müller, however, sealed Bayern’s dominance with a late goal in the 83rd minute.
The most dramatic tie of the night unfolded in London, where Tottenham Hotspur defeated Atlético Madrid 3–2 but fell short on aggregate. Son Heung-min gave Spurs an early lead in the 18th minute, only for Antoine Griezmann to respond seven minutes later. James Maddison restored Tottenham’s advantage in the 47th minute, but Álvaro Morata struck for Atlético in the 68th minute to level the tie on aggregate. Richarlison’s 81st-minute goal gave Spurs hope, but Atlético held firm to progress on away goals after a 4–4 aggregate scoreline.
With the results, Liverpool and Bayern Munich advance convincingly, while Atlético Madrid join them in the quarter-finals after surviving a stern test in North London.
