‎Channels TV Cameraman Kani Ben Buried in Adamawa After Fatal Bauchi Road Crash

‎The late Channels Television cameraman, Kani Ben, has been laid to rest in his hometown of Kangling, Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

‎Ben, 44, died on February 15, 2026, from injuries he sustained in a road accident while on official assignment in Bauchi State. Born on May 28, 1982, he was described by colleagues and officials as a dedicated and professional media practitioner.

‎The tragic accident occurred along the Yashi–Yelwan Duguri Road in Alkaleri Local Government Area during coverage of a North East Development Commission (NEDC) project commissioning. Fourteen journalists from various media organisations were part of the convoy at the time of the incident.

‎Kani Ben was the only fatality recorded in the crash.

‎The delegation had earlier handed over a Government Secondary School project in Yelwan Duguri to the Bauchi State Government. The team was led by the Minister of State for Regional Development, Alhaji Uba Maigari Ahmadu, and accompanied by the Bauchi State Deputy Governor, Auwal Jatau. They were on their way to commission the Bara Bridge linking Bauchi and Gombe states when the accident happened.

‎The injured journalists were initially rushed to Yelwan Duguri Hospital and later transferred to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) and the Bauchi Specialist Hospital for further treatment.

‎At the burial ceremony, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, expressed deep condolences to the family of the deceased and members of the media community. Represented by the Commissioner for Information, Usman Shehu Usman, the governor announced the approval of automatic employment for Ben’s widow, Sarah, into the Bauchi State civil service.

‎The governor had earlier visited the injured journalists at ATBUTH and directed that they receive comprehensive medical care.

‎In a tribute, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Comrade Mukhtar Gidado, described the late cameraman as hardworking and committed to his profession.

‎Also speaking, Rt. Rev. Cletus Dading, Bishop of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN), Abuja Diocese, commended the Bauchi State Government for its support to the bereaved family.

‎Kani Ben is remembered by colleagues as a quiet, dedicated professional who served with courage and commitment until his final assignment.
