In an emphatic performance at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night, Chelsea shattered the record for the largest win in UEFA Conference League history with an 8-0 rout of Armenian side FC Noah. Joao Felix and Christopher Nkunku both scored twice, propelling Enzo Maresca’s side to a commanding victory and solidifying their top position in the group.

Chelsea’s performance eclipsed the previous record, Nordsjaelland’s 7-1 triumph over Ludogorets last season. The Blues, who defeated Gent and Panathinaikos in earlier group matches, were almost caught off guard in the opening minutes when Goncalo Gregorio tested Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, while Felix missed an early chance to score.

Once Chelsea settled, however, the game quickly became a one-sided affair. Tosin opened the scoring with a header from Enzo Fernandez’s corner, and Marc Guiu doubled the lead seconds later after a Noah turnover. Axel Disasi headed in Chelsea’s third, and Felix redeemed his earlier miss by chipping over goalkeeper Ognjen Chancharevich to make it 4-0. Mykhailo Mudryk added a fifth with a stunning curler, and a deflected Felix shot saw Chelsea lead 6-0 at halftime.

Though Chelsea showed less urgency in the second half, Nkunku added a seventh from a tight angle, later scoring again from the penalty spot after a VAR review confirmed a foul on Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. The penalty capped a night to remember for the Blues.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca praised his team’s professionalism: “Football is full of surprises, so it’s essential to be prepared. Tonight, the players showed the right mentality.” Maresca also commented on Mudryk’s Premier League prospects and commended Tyrique George’s solid full debut.

FC Noah’s manager, Rui Mota, acknowledged Chelsea’s dominance but expressed disappointment in his team’s defensive errors. “We lost control after the first two goals, which isn’t typical of our team. Chelsea took full advantage,” Mota stated, adding that he hoped his team could move on and learn from the experience.

Chelsea will look to carry this momentum as they continue their Conference League campaign, having already sent a strong message to Europe with this record-breaking display.
