Former Labour Party presidential candidate and former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, said the economic situation of Nigeria should worry both leaders and citizens across the country.
In a statement he shared on his X account today, he explained that many households are struggling to meet their daily basic needs.
He further stated that different families in the country are using different strategies to cope with the situation, which include reducing food intake, walking long distances to work, and relying on borrowing to meet their daily bills. He further explained that different small businesses, which are essential to the economy, are also being closed due to the current economic situation.
The former governor further explained that it was not possible to have positive economic development while the living standards of the people in the country were deteriorating. He further explained that he was concerned about the disconnect between the current struggles of the people in the country and the current spending by the government.
Obi added that the welfare of the people in Nigeria should be prioritized in the economic reform, while also ensuring that the economy remains stable.
