An individual named Mayowa shared with journalist Rufai Oseni that interns at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC) have not been fully paid for several months.
Journalist Rufai Oseni posted on his official X page about the complaint. According to the post, the interns have been given eleven months of clinical service, but only six months of salary have been partially paid. Their December salary and other months’ payments remain outstanding. Despite this, they say they are being asked to continue working, even amid ongoing industrial action.
The post emphasized that, despite repeated complaints, peaceful protests, and pleas, no solution has been produced. According to the post, the management reportedly said the delay is due to funds not being released from Abuja, but the interns argue that their pay comes directly from the hospital, unlike other staff whose salaries are federally funded.
The information shared says that the situation has caused financial, emotional, and psychological strain, and they are calling for urgent attention to protect their welfare and labour rights among interns.
