The Federal High Court has sentenced two persons to a combined 40 years’ imprisonment for the production, possession, sale and distribution of adulterated and unregistered alcoholic beverages in Lagos State.
The convicts, Otuorimuno Nelson Aziakpono, 58, and Ikegwuonu Davidson Ikechukwu, 28, were found guilty on eight counts bordering on the manufacture and circulation of counterfeit drinks and possession of unwholesome products.
Their conviction followed an enforcement operation carried out on December 3, 2025, at Kojo Street, Ijanikin, and Vespa Market, where officials uncovered large quantities of fake alcoholic beverages.
Recovered items included counterfeit and unregistered variants of Hennessy, Jameson Irish Whiskey, William Lawson’s and Gordon’s Gin, which were described as misleadingly packaged and unsafe for human consumption.
The court subsequently handed the two defendants a total of 40-year jail term after finding them culpable under relevant laws.
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public health, warning that adulterated alcoholic products pose serious health risks.
The agency added that it would sustain enforcement operations across the country and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious products and activities to the nearest NAFDAC office.
