Kano, Nigeria- The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission said this evening that Justice S M Shuaibu of the Federal High Court sitting in Kano convicted and sentenced a Kannywood actress, Saadatu Mohammed Inuwa, also known as Samha, to six months imprisonment for abusing and mutilating the Naira.
The EFCC said the actress was charged on a one count offence bordering on the mutilation of the Nigerian currency, contrary to the provisions of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act 2007.
The Commission said the charge stated that Saadatu Mohammed Inuwa sometime in 2022 tampered with a one thousand naira note issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by soiling it with mucus from her nose within the court’s jurisdiction.
The EFCC said Inuwa pleaded guilty when the charge was read to her, after which the prosecuting counsel, Musa Isah, reviewed the facts of the case and urged the court to convict and sentence her accordingly.
The Commission said the actress appealed to the court for leniency, stating that she was a first time offender and had shown remorse for her actions.
The EFCC said Justice S M Shuaibu thereafter convicted Saadatu Mohammed Inuwa and sentenced her to six months imprisonment with an option of a fine of two hundred thousand naira.
