The Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has recommended the expulsion of former Governor Ayodele Fayose due to alleged actions against the party’s interests. During a press briefing in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday, the PDP Caretaker Chairman, Dare Adeleke, explained that Fayose’s public endorsement of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was a significant factor behind the decision.
Adeleke noted that Fayose’s actions, including his support for Oyebanji’s second-term bid, amounted to misconduct and anti-party activities. He emphasized that the call for Fayose’s expulsion was part of the submissions made to the Tom Ikimi-led Disciplinary Panel and the Olagunsoye Oyinlola Reconciliation Committee.
In response to Fayose’s recent statements that the PDP was “dead” in Ekiti, Adeleke stated that the former governor’s behavior had embarrassed the party and misrepresented its values. He urged the PDP’s national leadership to act swiftly by expelling Fayose and his allies, warning that their continued presence in the party could be detrimental.
Adeleke also criticized Fayose’s endorsement of Oyebanji, questioning the governor’s performance in key areas such as infrastructure, health, and education. He accused Fayose of acting out of personal interest, suggesting that his public support for Oyebanji was driven by financial motives.
Adeleke called on Fayose to make an official move to decamp from the PDP instead of aligning with opposing parties. He urged PDP members to stay focused on rebuilding the party and strengthening its presence across Ekiti State.
As the PDP looks ahead to 2026, Adeleke encouraged the people of Ekiti to reject leaders who neglect their responsibilities and choose leadership that prioritizes the well-being of the state.
