By Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison has overtaken Elon Musk to become the world’s richest person, ending Musk’s almost year-long dominance of the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
Bloomberg reported that Ellison’s wealth jumped by an unprecedented $101 billion on Wednesday after Oracle posted stronger-than-expected quarterly earnings and projected continued growth in its cloud services business.
The surge lifted Ellison’s fortune to $393 billion, moving him ahead of Musk, whose net worth now stands at $385 billion. The 81-year-old’s gains represent the biggest one-day increase ever recorded on Bloomberg’s wealth tracker.
Oracle’s stock, which had already climbed 45 percent in 2025, spiked a further 41 percent following the company’s upbeat results. Investors reacted positively to reports of robust bookings and optimism around Oracle’s cloud infrastructure unit.
Ellison, who has previously traded places at the top with Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and LVMH chairman Bernard Arnault, now sits firmly at the summit of the global rich list.
Musk, meanwhile, has seen Tesla shares slide by 13 percent this year, weighing on his fortune. Still, his position could dramatically change if Tesla’s board approves a proposed compensation plan. The package, tied to ambitious performance targets, has been touted as potentially making Musk the world’s first trillionaire.
