Enugu Police Arraign Man for Cyberbullying of State SSG

Enugu, Nigeria – The Enugu State Police Command announced today that it has arraigned a 41 year old man, Chijinkem Ugwuanyi, before a Magistrate Court in Enugu State for a defamatory publication, cyberbullying, and stalking targeting the Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia.

The police said the suspect, who operates a Facebook account under the name Sen Chijinkem Ugwuanyi, allegedly made a post on January 15, 2026, falsely attributing a statement to the SSG and attaching his photograph.

According to the Command, investigations showed the statement did not originate from the SSG.The suspect reportedly admitted to making the post but was unable to provide evidence that the SSG made the alleged remark. The court subsequently ordered that he be remanded in a correctional facility, while the case file was transmitted to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, cautioned social media users to act responsibly online and warned against cyberbullying, stalking, and the spread of defamatory content, stressing that offenders would face the full weight of the law.
