Atlanta, USA — Nigerian sprint star Favour Ofili delivered a landmark performance at the 2025 Adidas Atlanta City Games on Saturday, blazing to a world record time of 15.85 seconds in the women’s 150m at Piedmont Park in Atlanta, Georgia.
The 22-year-old’s electrifying run not only earned her the gold but also etched her name in history as the first woman ever to dip below the 16-second mark in the rarely-run distance.
Her time obliterated the previous world record of 16.23s, held since 2018 by Bahamian Olympic champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo.
Ofili’s historic feat headlined a stellar day for Team Nigeria at the event, which featured an open-street format designed to engage fans more intimately with track and field action.
Also impressing on the track was Tobi Amusan, the reigning world record holder in the 100m hurdles. She ran a strong 12.53s to finish second in her heat behind American star Keni Harrison (12.44s), securing her place in the final.
This marked a steady progression for Amusan, following previous outings of 12.74s and 12.66s in Xiamen and Keqiao, respectively, as she sharpens her form ahead of the upcoming summer championships.
Meanwhile, Udodi Onwuzurike, one of Nigeria’s brightest sprinting prospects, produced a season’s best of 10.20s to place second in his 100m heat. He followed Akani Simbine of South Africa, who won the race in 10.13s.
Onwuzurike’s performance was enough to book him a spot in the final and signaled a promising turnaround in his 2025 season.
The Adidas Atlanta City Games, known for its innovative street-style setup, continues to grow in popularity, offering a fresh and electric experience that breaks away from the traditional stadium format while making athletics more accessible and exciting for fans around the world.
