Abuja, Nigeria
Workers at the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) secretariat have begun an indefinite strike, citing unresolved labour and welfare issues.
The Joint Union Action Congress (JUAC) directed workers to withdraw their services, effective Monday, January 19, 2026, after authorities allegedly failed to address long-standing demands.

Key grievances include non-payment of promotion arrears, delayed promotions, and extension of service for retired directors and permanent secretaries, blocking career progression.
Workers also accuse the administration of failing to remit statutory deductions, including pension contributions and National Housing Fund payments, risking staff future welfare.
The strike follows a seven-day ultimatum issued on January 7, which expired without meaningful engagement.
Security operatives have been deployed to maintain peace, while the FCTA Administration has yet to respond.
