The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, in a release made on Wednesday, August 20, clarified that patients in the North West part of the country are not excluded from the kidney dialysis subsidy scheme. The release, signed by Alaba Balogun, Deputy Director and Head, Information and Public Relations, reacted to reports suggesting otherwise. The statement partly read, “In a landmark move to save lives and reduce both physical and financial suffering, particularly among vulnerable Nigerians, the Federal Government has approved a subsidy scheme that drastically reduces the cost of dialysis in Federal hospitals.”

It further stated, “Under the scheme, the cost of a dialysis session has been reduced from ₦50,000 to ₦12,000.” The release also explained that the initiative is driven by the Renewed Hope Agenda and is part of the administration’s efforts to provide relief for patients with kidney-related diseases.
