Abuja, Nigeria — In a landmark development, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has officially handed over 753 duplexes and other apartments in Abuja—seized from the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele—to the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
This was disclosed today by the Honourable Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Architect Ahmed Dangiwa, who hosted EFCC Chairman, Mr. Olanipekun Olukoyede, for the handover ceremony in the Cadastral Zone of the Federal Capital Territory.
The move is in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive that recovered assets should be put to productive use, rather than left to deteriorate.
The estate will now be completed and repurposed for public benefit through a transparent and accountable process.
“This marks a significant milestone in our effort to ensure recovered assets benefit ordinary Nigerians,” Dangiwa said.
As part of the next steps, the Ministry will conduct structural assessments to ensure the buildings are safe and suitable for habitation. Infrastructure such as roads and drainage systems will be completed, while a standardized housing design framework will be developed to maintain architectural uniformity.
The housing units will be offered for sale through a competitive, transparent process managed via the Renewed Hope Portal.
“This collaboration with the EFCC demonstrates that the fight against corruption can yield real, livable results,” the minister added.
