Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has urged corps members deployed to Adamawa State to uphold discipline, promote national unity and take skills acquisition seriously, describing the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme as a critical platform for building responsible, productive and self-reliant young Nigerians.
The governor gave the charge at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Batch A, Stream I NYSC orientation course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Damare, in Gerei Local Government Area.He was represented by his deputy, Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta
Governor Fintiri explained that the posting of corps members outside their states of origin was a deliberate policy aimed at fostering tolerance, mutual understanding and national integration among youths from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

He encouraged them to interact freely, exchange ideas and build lasting relationships that would further strengthen national cohe
The governor also urged the corps members to fully participate in the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programmes, noting that the initiative would equip them with practical skills needed for self-reliance and economic productivity beyond their service year.
In a major disclosure, Governor Fintiri announced that construction of a permanent NYSC Orientation Camp at Malkohi in Yola South Local Government Area was progressing steadily.
”The project, when completed, would provide a safer, more secure and conducive environment for corps members and camp officials, while meeting modern standards for efficiency, comfort and safety.” The governor said.
He further assured the corps members that his administration was conscious of the prevailing economic challenges and had put measures in place to cushion their effects, urging them in return to exhibit discipline, diligence and perseverance at their places of primary assignment.
Earlier, the Adamawa State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Osoroh Caroline Chinedu, commended Governor Fintiri for his consistent support and commitment to the NYSC scheme, noting that corps members in the state remained dedicated to contributing meaningfully to its development.
She also praised the state government for ensuring the welfare of corps members through adequate feeding and the provision of a secure and enabling camp environment.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Barrister Wali Yakubu, who also serves as Chairman of the NYSC Governing Board in the state, applauded the Fintiri administration for sustaining peace and stability for corps members in Adamawa.
”I advised you to maximise the camp’s skills acquisition and entrepreneurship programmes to prepare yourselves as job creators rather than job seekers. The commissioner added.”
The ceremony climaxed with the administration of the oath of allegiance on the corps members by the Chief Judge of Adamawa State, Justice Hafsat Abdulrahman, represented by Justice Helen Hammanjoda.
