By Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has forwarded the names of three nominees to the Adamawa State House of Assembly for confirmation as commissioners, signaling a possible cabinet reshuffle following a recent resignation.
The nominations were transmitted to the Assembly on Tuesday, just a day after the former Commissioner for Works and Energy Development, Adamu Atiku Abubakar, publicly announced his resignation from the State Executive Council.
In his resignation letter, Adamu Atiku — son of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar — said he stepped down “after deep reflection and careful consideration,” without disclosing specific reasons for his decision.
However, political observers had long speculated about internal disagreements, particularly over Governor Fintiri’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). While most commissioners followed the governor to the APC, Adamu Atiku was among three who declined to defect.
The new commissioner nominees submitted to the Assembly are:
Sali Idris (Maiha Local Government Area)
Muhammed Suleiman (Mubi North Local Government Area)
Chubado Mohammed (Jada Local Government Area)
The nominations were conveyed in separate letters read on the floor of the House by Speaker Bathiya Wesley during Tuesday’s plenary.
Following the reading, the Speaker directed the Clerk of the House to notify the nominees to appear before the Assembly with their curriculum vitae on Monday, March 9, 2026, for screening and confirmation.
Apart from Adamu Atiku, the two other commissioners who reportedly declined to defect alongside the governor were the Commissioner for Livestock Development, Tijjani Maksha, and the Commissioner for Justice, Afraimu Jingi.
Although only Adamu Atiku has formally resigned, the submission of three new nominees suggests that further changes may be underway within the cabinet.
