The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, spoke out against the attacks on women and girls during a Festival in Delta State. On her official X page, she described the videos circulated online as horrific and degrading.
She emphasized that while Nigeria’s cultural traditions are important and deserve respect, it does not justify harm and humiliation.
“I watched the horrific viral footage emerging from Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, showing girls physically and sexually assaulted, subjected to degrading and barbaric treatment during what was supposed to be a community festival”, she said.
The First Lady urged the authorities to take strong action, commending the Nigeria Police Force for the arrests already made and calling for all those responsible to face justice.
AfrikTimes earlier reported that the incident according to viral reports on social media platforms happened on Thursday, during the community’s annual festival. The viral video showed men attacking women in public, grabbing their clothes, and harassing them.
